Do not be afraid to think creatively

Everyone is creative. It is true, there is no need to divide people in creative and non-creative, all have that potential, be what prevents us is the fear of being different. In a TED talk, David Kelley, entrepreneur and founder of the legendary design firm IDEO, tells a story in which their elementary school had to draw a horse. His friend was focused on his work when one of the girls told him his illustration nothing like a horse, which caused it throw it. Often reviews so we slow, the fear of being judged prevents us from developing our sense of creativity.

It is important to get rid of that anxiety to generate the confidence to carry out our purposes, be more resistant to failure and change the world. Albert Mandura, an important psychologist, called this self-efficacy. When people gain confidence, begin to do things that are important in your life and dare to go in different directions, we have the best and most interesting ideas, and make better decisions.

How to Think “outside the box”

Inside the box we felt safe, we agree with all. Getting out of the box means putting at risk the reputation we have built our whole life. We live in a network in which, at the end, all have the same information, but there is a big difference between what we know and what we have not even thought. How to get there?

Our brain is a complex mechanism conditioned by the environment. In school we learn what others know, have discovered or created; then we experience, successes and failures which help us to keep learning but we used to think only about the internal content, in what we put “within the housing”. It may seem difficult because many times we do not feel able to invent, to generate new ideas. To exit, must first consider the reality that is outside can seem absurd, mistaken irrelevant. This is what Giovanni Corazza, professor at the University of Bologna, flame “divergent information”, and is just what we need to cross the borders of our mind to get what we know we have not even thought.

Once out of the box, where nothing seems to make sense arising anxiety can return to a safe area, but Corazza says it is necessary to overcome this temptation and keep thinking, because only this reflection is what can lead us away, we can associate, combine or get some ideas and apply them in areas where they have never been applied. We need to have an open mind and look for alternatives to correct answers. Thinking creatively is not just one answer.

A good idea can challenge the world around you. Dare to think “outside the box”. In Nest we have created inspiring spaces for those who seek to generate and grow innovative projects. Come and see our facilities for entrepreneurs, creative and freelancers.
